Foundation for Progression (GCSE)
In addition to its A Level and Level 3 BTEC provision, STEM6 Academy wishes to reserve a limited number of places for young people with an interest in STEM subjects who for various reasons, have not yet achieved the necessary GCSE/Level 2 grades to enable progression onto Level 3 courses. For these students, who have the talent, ambition and motivation to study at our Academy, we will offer a Foundation for Progression (FfP) year which on successful completion will enable students to progress onto Level 3 courses (A Level or BTEC Diplomas).
FfP enables students to re-take selected GCSEs and go on to study at Advanced Level (L3); it is expected that most FfP students will progress onto full A Levels or BTEC within 1 year of FfP study. The level of study needed will vary between students from full GCSE re-takes to subject specific re-takes, e.g. English and Mathematics.
STEM6 Academy’s GCSE offer will be based on the English Baccalaureate Curriculum (EBacc) which is made up of English, Mathematics, History or Geography, the Sciences Computer Science and Modern Languages. We aim to ensure all students achieve the required A*- C gradesin five of these specified core subjects. FfP students will also have the option to study additional GCSEs and vocational qualifications (BTEC Level 2 Awards). All FfP students will take part in the careers programme, project work and business development that run alongside the STEM core within STEM6
